Vauxhall Bridge, Vauxhall, 1817

Old Vauxhall Bridge viewed from the Lambeth side.

The bridge was built in 1816 to link north Lambeth with the west end of London.

This in turn encouraged extensive ribbon development along the main thoroughfare passing through Kennington and Vauxhall.

Due to problems caused by an increase in traffic, the foundations of the bridge had to be repaired in 1887 and the entire bridge was rebuilt in 1906.
